[PTP] Protect the President Mapping Guidelines
Protect the President
MAPPING GUIDELINES
Use cylinder markers to create spawn points
Add multiple spawn markers for each class
(excluding president)
The cylinder size determines how many players can spawn there
(a size 9 marker can spawn 9 players in it)
There are 6 classes and you must add spawn markers for all of them!
(here are the color codes for each class, they must be exactly the same!)
- President
[255,255,0]
- Secret Service
[0,30,200]
- Police
[0,170,255]
- Support
[0,255,0]
- Civilians
[255,255,255]
- Terrorists
[200,0,0]
Spawns
- There must be spawn markers for all classes. (only 1 spawn marker for the President!)
- Ideally, you should avoid spawning classes too far from each other. (e.g. President in Los Santos, and Terrorists in the other end of San Fierro)
- Do not place the Terrorists and Civilians bases near the President. The President must have enough time to leave their base safely.
Decorations
- Your map decorations are very important! They are what make your map unique.
- Be creative and original, don't create a map just for the sake of it. We want something that stands out, something new!
- Poorly placed objects will likely result in your map getting declined. Take your time to rotate and position objects properly. (an object stuck inside another, objects flying just above the ground, etc.)
- Make sure there aren't any flickering objects. (this happens when 2 objects are overlapping)
Vehicles
- At least 1 limousine (Stretch) must be placed near the President's spawn. (excluding bunker maps)
- Police vehicles are placed in the Police base, Ambulances and Towtrucks are placed in the Support base, and so on...
- Include a variety of vehicles to your map. Don't simply put only popular vehicles like Infernus, NRG-500, and Shamal.
- Adding a lot of Shamals and/or Rustlers to your map might make it heavily unbalanced. Be mindful of how many you're adding, and where you're putting them.
Pickups
- Disabled pickups: Minigun & Rocket Launchers
Mods
- You can add mods to your map. (vehicle/ped skins, textures, weapons)
- Some vehicle/ped skins are very different from the original and might ruin the gameplay, so don't go crazy with them. (replacing Infernus with an FBI car mod, ped skin with a very big head)
- Mods shouldn't be a priority. Your map should be 100% playable without them.
General Tips & Guidelines
⭐ Uniqueness
• You should aim to give your map a unique layout/look compared to other maps.
• [Bunkers] Avoid copying the same interiors used in many other bunkers. (f.e. the same damn interior from the Drug Factory map)
📐 Structure/Layout
• Often, mappers have a room with a single object/texture used throughout the room (it looks confusing because the edges blend seamlessly and you can't see the way clearly), and they throw some random objects and call it a day.
• [Bunkers] Try to have a somewhat complex structure/layout (multiple rooms, halls, paths, entrances, exits, bridges, etc.)
• [Bunkers] Avoid basic, bland, open-space and box-like interiors. They are often low-effort, don't look good and are possibly bad for balance.
🎄 Decoration
• Decorations make the map stand out and be memorable. Add decorations and make your bunker look special. Just don't overdo it and cause low FPS.
• Decorations make it more pleasing for players to play the map. Who doesn't like to look at nice things?
🚙 Vehicles
• [Bunkers] RC vehicles make the player nearly invincible because of the awful hitbox, so avoid adding too many of them (preferably 0) if possible.
🌄 Environment, Time & Weather
• Create a nice Environment and Style for your map. Is it outdoor or indoor? Is it set in the city with modern designs or in a jungle? Is there a specific theme throughout?
• Time and Weather also play a significant role in the map's look and feel.
• Avoid very bright and colourful skies. They usually look ugly and basically blind the players. (f.e. bright pink and green gradient skies)
• Of course it's up to you (the mapper) and your artistic choices. So, these aren't very strictly enforced.
🧐 Head-glitch
• [Bunkers] Avoid having too many walls where players can peak their heads from but enemies cannot see or hit them.
🛠️ Glitches
• [Bunkers] Your map should be completely sealed/closed (have boundaries) if you don't want a player to leave it. Check for holes, glitches, etc.
⚔️ Attacker bases
• [Bunkers] It's usually a bad idea to spawn Civilians in the way of terrorists (or the other way around) as it makes it hard for the attackers to pass through and reach the president. In certain bunkers, a common issue is that the Civilians are between the Terrorists and the President, so they don't allow the Terrorists to pass them.
❤️ Health & Armor
• Avoid adding too many health and armor pickups.
• [Bunkers] Avoid putting health & armor pickups inside crates or small compartments because players can run around them and keep healing up.
⚖️ Balance
• [Bunkers] Making your map symmetrical likely improves balance to a certain extent.
• [Bunkers] If you use teleports, you should not teleport the player into an open area where they can instantly get killed. They should have some cover.
